Tiger Stamp Popup Card

Today I am sharing a pop-up card I designed featuring stamps from  A Taste of India Tiger Tiger stamp set from Crafter's Companion. Sheena Douglas is the artist and designer of this beautiful stamp set.

I had been longing to use this beautiful stamp and while I was in Arizona visiting my parents, I decided to use it to make a card for my father's 83rd birthday. Because I was away from home, I wasn't able to use all the tools and supplies I would have normally used, but I made do and I think it turned out fairly well.

I layered orange, black and white cardstock for the front of the card, printed out the sentiment on white cardstock and then cut an oval around the sentiment with my Sizzix Big Kick (Big Shot) die cutting machine.

I wanted the tiger to look as if he were in the jungle, sheltered by trees and vegetation. I decided to make the pop-up elements in the Origamic Architecture style - cut out of a single sheet of paper.  I began with a box shape and marked and scored the fold areas for the trees. I used Prismacolor Premier colored pencils to draw trees, joining them together to form a kind of arch.

I measured and scored the folding areas for the bottom of the tiger and the support tab that was to go on the shoulders and back of the tiger. Then I stamped the image where it should go.  I colored the tiger, the background and the base with the colored pencils.

Once all the coloring was done, I made the cuts around the images and folded on the score lines. I die cut some foliage for the trees with a die I had but I wanted a more tropical look and used the two leaf stamps from the tiger stamp set, I stamped and fussy cut the tropical leaves and layered them inside the arch area.

I used my Sizzix oval die to cut out the sentiment I had printed (and colored with the pencils) on white cardstock and layered that over an oval that was die cut slightly larger.

Here is a side view of the card.  You can see the support tab and bottom fold of the tiger and how the foliage was layered inside the card.

Hope you enjoyed the card.  There is no template available for this card at this time, however if you browse through the archives, you will find quite a few pop-up template downloads for other cards and projects.
