Please contact me to arrange delivery of your prize!

Hooray, today is the first day of the Fiskafriends Blog Hop!

If you have no idea what I am talking about, click HERE for the important rules of the blog hop giveaway. If you have been there and done that, keep reading.

I am going to do this backwards.

If you JOIN my blog via the Google Friends Connect member button under my Profile picture AND include in the ONE comment you leave today that you did that, I will enter you in both my personal GFC member giveaway AND the Fiskafriend Sponsored Giveaway Prize drawing. (You may just add GFC at the end of your comment if you like.)

The prize for my personal giveaway is a $25 GIFT CERTIFICATE from an on-line vendor of your choice that permits that kind of gift arrangement.

If you would rather not, then please leave a supportive, relevant comment about my post today and you will still have an entry in the Fiskafriend Sponsored Giveaway Prize drawing. Deal ?

If you are in a hurry, please visit the next person on the blogger list at the end of this post and good luck to you. I mean that sincerely. I hop all the time. I understand.

As a token of my good will, allow me to share my quick blog hopping tip with you. Start at the beginning blog of the hop (helps to know the rules) and keep the window open. Right click on the first list link to open it in a NEW window, read the post, comment, then close the window of the new blog. Because the original window is still open - there is your list AND the links you visit are colored so you can remember which one you already clicked on - very handy when participating in a hop with a lot of blogs to visit - you know, like THIS ONE.

What? You're still here! Giant hug! If you have the time and would like to see what I look like in real life, click HERE for a video taken of me doing a demonstration for Eileen Hull at this year's January CHA trade show. It was so fun. You can read a little bit about it on Eileen Hull's blog where I had the privilege of being a featured fan. I am having so much fun using Eileen Hull Designs amazing Canister Die. One of the things I love about Eileen's dies is that they are so versatile. As I was working with the Canister Die, I started getting ideas for other projects. One of the projects I wanted to try making was a luminary.

The Kit N Clowder Facebook group was having a Fantasy Challenge, sponsored by the Flying Unicorn. The challenge was to create a Fantasy project and if we included a unicorn in our project, we could get an additional entry.

Here is what I came up with:

I used Kelly Papers 100 lb white cover stock for the paper. Because the cover stock was rather thick, knew I needed to create some openings for the light to shine through, so I used Sue Wilson's Eternal Rings striplet to acheive that. The striplet die was narrow enough to use with the panel parts of Eileen's cannister die. I got a wonderful public domain unicorn image from Wikipedia and fussy cut it and adhered it to the front of the luminary.

The flowers were created with a Martha Stewart Hydrangea punch. I used an embossing tool to give the flowers more dimension and added tiny self-adhesive half pearls to the centers and also to the pattern created by the Eternal Rings die and on the corners of the top and bottom of the luminary.

If you look closely at the photo above you can see the battery operated tea light I added. The tea light is from Walmart. Rather than open the luminary from the top, I created it to open from the bottom, so the tea light could be easily accessed.

For the top of the luminary, I used a beautiful filigree flower adornment from the Flying Unicorn and added a flower and pearl to the middle. The lid is glued to the top of the luminary, which is really the bottom turned upside down.

I love the effect of the lighted luminary.

I showed it to a colleague at work who asked me if I could make a night light for her new granddaughter. And so ... I did! Unfortunately, I got the name wrong on the panel I added, so I will be making another one this weekend.

In a few days, I shall share photos showing how I created these.

In closing, I would like to share how I met Eileen Hull. We have been Facebook friends for several years. This year I was able to attend the CHA convention in Anaheim, and while I was there, I wanted to say hello to Eileen, so I went to one of her make and take demonstrations. After the demonstration, I went behind the counter to get my picture taken with Eileen. We were having a fun chat, and a very nice lady approached the counter, and being in a jolly mood, I asked her if she would like to do a make and take. Eileen let me show the lady how to do the project. I had so much fun. Eileen videotaped it with her phone and shared it on Facebook. Click HERE if you would like to see the video:

That's all for now. Please check back in a few days if you want to see how I made these luminaries.
I want to collect them all. Here is my first completed project made with her cool Canister Die. I am entering this project in the Eileen Hull Designs' Art With Heart "Go Green" Challenge. Click here to see the current challenge. You do not need to use Eileen's dies to enter a project – but you get extra points if you do. The prize for the winning entry is one of Eileen Hull's dies. Also, check out the Eileen Hull Designs' Facebook page. Eileen is very prompt in answering any questions you may have or replying to comments. She's a doll!

The dies are designed to work with Sizzix die-cutting machines. There may be other machines that can work with these dies - be sure you check the specifications before purchasing these thicker dies. I own the Sizzix Big Kick which is exactly the same machine as the Big Shot – just with a different name. I don't have a tutorial for you today, I will have some in the future. I will also show you how I used regular size cutting plates with this dies, although I recommend that you DO get the extended cutting plates from Sizzix.
In the meantime, here is a link to Bona Rivera-Tran's video, showing how to put the die cuts together. She also shares how to make a taller version of the canister. Very cool. Definitely want to try that.
It's based on the Mother's Day card that I presented last year, but the template and directions have been improved. The graphics are from Dover Pictura. My printer doesn't always match the colors on my screen, so the image you see above is what prints out on mine, but the PDF colors look a little different than what I see in the PDF. The colors on this card are suitable for either a male or female. As with the Mother's Day card template, there are alternate squares that will enable you to customize the card to your liking. I hope you enjoy this three-sided corner Valentine gift card/holder. This time I have included a template for a matching envelope as well.
scissors (or other cutting equipment,)
a scoring tool (I use a steel crochet hook for mine,)
adhesive (double side tape or glue.)

ruler

Directions

Cutting

Cut out the pieces you need. I have now included a thin black line around the edges of the patterns. Cut directly in the middle of the black lines.

Scoring

You no longer need to score on the back of the card, just score directly on all of the dotted lines. If you don't have a scoring tool or thin bone folder, you may use a butter knife, screwdriver, empty ball point pen or similar objects. I like to use a steel crochet hook. Line up the ruler along side the dotted lines. (It helps to put your scoring tool on the line first and slide the ruler up against it.) Hold the ruler down with one hand, then with the scoring tool, press firmly and drag on the dotted lines.

Quick and Easy Pop-up Valentine Tent Place Cards
Repost from 2013

These pop-up tent place cards are super easy to make and are perfect for young children's Valentine parties! The bears and hearts graphic is one I have edited and adapted from Dover Publications - a great place to get images. For the message on the back, I used the Hole Hearted Font, courtesy of the most gracious and wonderful ANKE ! This template has 4 cards on 1 page. Instructions are also included on the second page.

Download template here. Set your printer margins to 0 to be on the safe side. For best results, resizing is not recommended.

Materials and tools needed: Cardstock (to print template on), craft knife, scissors and ruler (optional.)

The directions are very simple. Cut directly on the black lines to cut out the card. With a craft knife, cut the upper part of the rectangle as shown in the photo below. You may cut directly on the gray line or along the side of it. Push the flap a little to make sure it is free of the rest of the card. Then fold the card back on the dotted black lines.

The group is open to the public and the members are wonderful and supportive. Jody Stacy is the owner of Treasured Times Rubber Stamps and she keeps us on our toes with lovely challenges and lovely prizes as well. Treasured Times Rubber Stamps offers digi-stamps and clear polymer stamps in addition to traditional rubber stamps. If you enjoy this image, do pay a visit to her lovely blog at http://treasuredt.blogspot.com/

When I saw this delightful digi-stamp, I knew it would make a wonderful pop-up card. Because the bottom legs of the wardrobe were quite slender, I created matching drawers to support the wardrobe. The wall, floor and rug were colored digitally but the rest of the images were hand colored with Prismacolor pencils. I also fussy cut some of the images and layered them over the base image to create a little more dimension. I am sorry I cannot offer you a template as the digi-stamp is copyrighted but it may give you some inspiration to try something like this on your own. Hope you enjoyed it.
I wanted to share an A6 size easel card with a gate fold top with you today. I made this card for my mother's 82nd birthday. The little doors open to reveal a poem I wrote about her birth.

I used Sue Wilson's Eternal Rings dies to create the doors. I wanted them to have depth, so I tripled the die cuts and glued and stacked them and then glued them to a kraft card stock panel. It created an effect similar to carved wood. There are two dies in the set. One to cut out the eternal rings pattern and an outside rectangular die to cut the panel. I used Tombow's Mono Liquid glue to adhere them together. I adhered tiny stick on pearls (from Hobby Lobby in the centers of the little flower shapes.

Easel card with a gate fold top.

Here is a view of the doors opened to reveal the poem I wrote for Mom's card. I created the gate fold out of Graphic 45 's Ladies' Diary Delicate Details scrapbook paper (to create a hinge) and glued the Eternal Rings panels to it. It was necessary to do this, so the doors would stay closed. You could skip this step and make the gatefold out of card stock, if you don't mind the doors springing open,

but I preferred them to lie flat.

Gate fold "doors" open up to reveal the sentiment.

Here is a close up of the poem I wrote for the card. The font I used is called Chopinfont. It can be downloaded for free from several places on the net. I printed it out onto cream colored card stock and then used oval dies from Sizzix to cut it out and to also cut out a larger oval from Gold pearlized cover stock that I got from Kelly's Paper in Santa Ana, CA. They are a large chain and if they don't have a store in your area, you can order from them online. Whenever I stick nesting shapes or panels together, I like to use Tombow's Mono Multi glue. If the glue is applied and left to sit for a little while, it becomes tacky and somewhat reposition-able. Makes it easier when trying to center layers.

Inside sentiment poem.

Here is the "stop" for the top of the card to rest against. I used Spellbinders Labels Four Nestability dies for this. For the bottom layer, I cut two out of the gold cover stock and glued them together, then used the next smaller size to create the sentiment panel out of the cream card stock. I used a lovely Happy Birthday sentiment from Inspired by Stamping and heat embossed it in gold.
For the finishing touch, I used a Fancy Labels 2 pearl design from Want 2 Scrap .

Taylored Expressions Hexagon Cutting Plate

I have a wonderful cutting plate die made by Taylored Expressions - one of my favorite craft companies. The moment I saw this cutting plate I knew it had many possibilities. The die cut can be used whole, in parts and as you can see in the photo, the positive cut pieces can be used alone or to reinsert to create an inlaid effect.

The flower was created by trimming the die cut to create two flower shapes that were then overlapped.

I created the center of the flower by covering one of the little hexagon pieces with gold metallic pigment ink and then using thick clear embossing powder, heated it up to create a glossy 3D piece.
The paper I used behind the die cuts was from the Bo Bunny 6X6 Pad Serenade Collection. I believe I got it from The Flying Unicorn - one of my very favorite scrapbook companies.
The stacked oval dies are from Sizzix - Oval Framelits #657563.
The stamps that I used to heat emboss the sentiments are from the Verve Chevron Love Collection.

I have one more Taylored Expressions hexagon cutting plate example to share. I made it for a dear friend of mine. The background paper came from the stash of a friend of mine. I don't know the name of the company but I love this pretty paper. The flowers were made with Fiskars' Oopsie Daisy Punch. The center of the flowers was glittered with Sparkle N Sprinkle Cloud Nine Semi-transparent glitter. It's a very fine and gorgeous glitter. The photo doesn't do it justice.
Today I am sharing a pop-up card I designed featuring stamps from A Taste of India Tiger Tiger stamp set from Crafter's Companion. Sheena Douglas is the artist and designer of this beautiful stamp set.

I had been longing to use this beautiful stamp and while I was in Arizona visiting my parents, I decided to use it to make a card for my father's 83rd birthday. Because I was away from home, I wasn't able to use all the tools and supplies I would have normally used, but I made do and I think it turned out fairly well.
I wanted the tiger to look as if he were in the jungle, sheltered by trees and vegetation. I decided to make the pop-up elements in the Origamic Architecture style - cut out of a single sheet of paper. I began with a box shape and marked and scored the fold areas for the trees. I used Prismacolor Premier colored pencils to draw trees, joining them together to form a kind of arch.

I measured and scored the folding areas for the bottom of the tiger and the support tab that was to go on the shoulders and back of the tiger. Then I stamped the image where it should go. I colored the tiger, the background and the base with the colored pencils.

Once all the coloring was done, I made the cuts around the images and folded on the score lines. I die cut some foliage for the trees with a die I had but I wanted a more tropical look and used the two leaf stamps from the tiger stamp set, I stamped and fussy cut the tropical leaves and layered them inside the arch area.

I used my Sizzix oval die to cut out the sentiment I had printed (and colored with the pencils) on white cardstock and layered that over an oval that was die cut slightly larger.

Here is a side view of the card. You can see the support tab and bottom fold of the tiger and how the foliage was layered inside the card.

EZ To Make New Year's Place Cards.

Sorry for the delay in this post. New Year's Eve is tonight, but if you still need some cute place cards for a party, there is still time to print and make these two. It's hard to see it in the photos but the colors of the card is a glittery gold, silver and black and white.

Materials needed: Color Printer, card stock, ruler, craft knife, scissors and templates.

90 Degree Place Card

The template for the card pictured above is very easy to use but it will take a little longer to make than the other ones. You can open this card to a 90 degree angle and it will stay up.

For those of you who have a Mac and use Pages, it's very easy to insert the PDF into a Pages document, (select original size), align the PDF center and middle, and then put a text box over the name tag area and type in the guest names. Be sure to set the document margins to 0 first.

There are two card sets to print on one sheet of cardstock to save you a little money. If you make a mistake when you are writing in a guest's name, you can cut out an extra name tag and paste it over the error. Be sure to set your printer margins to 0. It will probably work at .05, but better safe than sorry.

The template for the card pictured above can be downloaded here: New Year's Place Card 1 PDF

This one is very simple and can be done in a few minutes. Just cut on the blue lines, then fold the card in half, backwards. No scoring needed. Presto! A tent style pop up place card. There are four cards on the page. Have fun!

Happy New Year's !
Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings!

Hi, Everyone!

I apologize for keeping you waiting so long for the place card templates. My day job is teaching music and art at a K-8 parochial school and the Christmas season keeps me busy. We are on break now, so get ready for a slew of new patterns and information within the next week and a half .

The pattern today is for a Christmas Place Card. There are three versions. Two with different Grace prayers and one without. They are even easier to make than the Thanksgiving Place Cards and I have also made some layout improvements. It's the same basic idea, but the square in the middle is easier to cut. I have separated the patterns so you can choose just the ones you want. There are two card kits per page so you will also save on the cost of card stock. I have also resized the template so that it doesn't require border-less printing. The instructions are on the card, so be sure to download it along with the patterns you choose.

The Santa, Frame and Holly graphics are courtesy of The Graphics Fairy. It is a great website!

Here are the Christmas Place Card templates. When you print them, make sure you do not resize them and make sure the center and rotate button is NOT selected.
I have included two popular "Grace" prayers. If your guests are not familiar with them, they can read them right off their place cards.

Guess what my New Year's resolution will be this year? Yep, you got it. To get holiday cards out a lot sooner. But here it is and the template is so EASY you could get still quite a few done in under an hour.

Materials needed: Template PDF, cardstock (65 lb is OK), craft knife, scissors, ruler, color printer.

Download the PDF here.

The PDF has three pages: Page one is the wheat colored template, page two is the white background, and page three is the instruction page. If you have colored cardstock you would like to use, the white version should work, just be aware that the colors may turn out differently.

How to make the card.

The diagram on the instruction page is pretty clear but I will give a quick overview here. You have only one ridge (mountain fold, the rest of the folds are all valley folds. To score the ridge fold you can kiss cut on the dotted lines or you can use the indentation method and score on the front and turn it over and score again on the embossed line.

Once you have cut out the card, there are only two vertical cuts, and of course you will need to cut the turkey tail feathers free. If you are uncomfortable with using craft knives, you could start the cut with the knife and finish it with the scissors.

To pop up the card, push the turkey tail forward, then put your fingers under the white box and pinch the ridge fold forward. Pinch the valley folds in the middle of the card and then gently close the card and crease. Fold the outer card in half and then use a tape runner to adhere the inner card to the outer card.

And that's all there is to it. Enjoy! The next projects will center around Christmas cards. Hopefully the first will be up the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Whoops, forgot to include the embellishment for the front of the Pumpkin House card.

The front of the card can be decorated in many ways. Stamping, patterned papers, Washi tape, ribbon, fabric, layered colored cardstock etc. are all great ways to finish this card. For those who do not have access to these items, I have included two images that are suitable for the front of the card. The graphics I used came from The Graphics Fairy website. Do visit her site and enjoy the huge selection of free graphics she offers there.

If you have used a corner punch on the other card parts, it's a good idea to continue with the top print embellishment. (I used the Fiskars' medium Decorative Corner Lever shown in the first post of this series.) If you chose to use a corner punch, make sure you cut away the thin border line as you cut out the image. If you are not using the punch, you may choose to leave the border line intact.

Sorry for the long delay in posting, folks. Just wanted to let you know I am hard at work creating a new template for you. Here is a sneak preview. It isn't quite right yet, but it's getting there.

Most of the architectural components have been designed by me, except for the grass and brick fills. The spiders, bats, cats and ghosts are images from the free Tuxpaint application available from http://tuxpaint.org . The cat poster is from http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/ . The pumpkins are from the Dover Pictura Store http://www.doverpictura.com .

I will be moving the pumpkin and tombstones around a little to add more stability to the pop out porch. There will be backing paper behind the door and a few more minor tweaks. Please stay tuned. You will find more updates as they happen at https://www.facebook.com/Ez3dPopUps .
